Impulse Web Solutions inks deal with Relevant Revolution/Sermon Jams

I will be redesigning the website to give it a more professional look but will be keeping the same type of theme.

I will be redoing the homepage, creating an interior page template and also redoing the navigation. Someone else will be responsible for popping in the content.

Purpose statement according to the site:

This ministry is designed to provide a medium which tactfully delivers biblical sermons that are relevant for the current generation. Our desire is to promote a reverence and passion for the supremacy of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom and our focus is on the foundational truths of the Christian faith. We emphasize unity on the essentials truths, liberty on the non-essentials and love in everything. We also believe strongly in the idea that unity does not equal uniformity because there is diversity in the Kingdom of Christ. The verse we have picked to represent this ministry is Romans 10:14 which states "But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?"

Relevant Revolution is run by John Mahshie of The Body of Asheville, a local church there in Asheville NC.

Look for the new site to be live hopefully by the end of March.

Wordtracker Keywords

Just got a new e-newsletter from Wordtracker today. They have launched a free tool tha will allow you to see what the most popular searches have been in the last 90 days.

For example, I typed in Wilmington NC Web Design and here was the result:

316,456,828 searches ( last 90 days )

5 searches for wilmington nc web site hosting and design

So basically out of 316 million searches done on the web in the last 90 days, only 5 people were searching using this term. Now, there are about a gazillion web design firms in Wilmington right now, which means I have my work cut out for me. Impulse Web Solutions launches n2pub

Just finished the new n2pub - Neighborhood Networks Publishing site this past week.

The site incorporates a more 'web-design 2.0' look to it and a rotating Flash homepage banner.
The Flash banner shows 4 quotes and pictures of some of their current clients.

The site also has an interactive map on the contact page - scroll your mouse over each push pin on any state and the contact info for that state will appear. I used CSS and Javascript to accomplish this effect.

The site also has a feedback page which will change periodically, soliciting info from their clients.

How to make a tool tip in HTML using CSS and JS

I found a really nice tool tip maker for a website I'm currently finishing up.

The client wanted a nice map of the US with Flash like effects. Flash is expensive and takes forever so I wanted to try it with something else.

At first, I tried using the ever popular Bubble Tooltips that seems to be number one on Google right now. http://www.web-graphics.com/mtarchive/001717.php

But, I needed the tooltip to be more customizable, so then I luckily found this one at

http://www.walterzorn.com/tooltip/tooltip_e.htm entitled "JavaScript, DHTML Tooltips"

I found this very easy to use - all i had to do was insert one piece of javascript at the bottom of the page and then use a mouseover effect. The mouse effect also has a ton of custom options so that I could change what I needed like: the font size, background color, border size and color, dropshadow color and size, width, textalignment, etc.

How long should I wait to get paid for web design?

I recently did a project and have waited a month to get paid. How long is too long?

I normally do 50% up front and 50% when it's done. However, this was a special rush case so I went ahead and did the work.

What other guidelines do other web designers/developers out there use for pricing and getting paid?

Impulse Launches Christian Surfers Costa Rica

Besides the photo area, the site is complete. My buddy Heath is hooking them up with free hosting since they are non-profit.

We stayed with these guys when we went down there last May - it was such a blessing to meet such awesome people. They helped us out alot as far as surf spots, things to do, things not to do, etc.

This February marks the one year anniversary for Impulse Web Solutions!

I just want to say thanks to all my clients for a great first year and I look forward to serving the Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach community in 2007.

AValive gets a new look

This is a site I redesigned for AValive.com which became AValive.biz on the new site.

AValive sells and rents audio visual equipment not only here in Wilmington but nation wide. Therefore, as an e-commerce site, I had to design the site with SEO optimization in mind.

This site has been live for about 4 or 5 months now, has 11,100 pages indexed by Google and ranks in the top ten on many of it's products.
