PSD Slicing for Designers

We did the original site design and layout but now we are making some upgrades:

Impulse remembers 9/11

We would like to say thank you to all of the brave men and women who risked their own lives to save others during the 9/11 crisis.

We also want to say we appreciate all the men and women in the armed forces right now who are defending our freedom and doing their duty, even when it may seem like there is no end in sight.

We sympathize with those who lost loved ones to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and pray for their families and friends.

Google rewrite screws my ranking

So did Google do re-write lately or what? My ranking for 'wilmington nc web design' has dropped liked crazy. Instead of being on the first or second page I am nowhere to be found - instead, the top sites listed for that search phrase are:

Man, what happened? I use to be right there with the big boys..now I'm nowhere.

Google site checks

I did a site check today by typing the following on Google

site:www.impulsewebdesigns.com

This will show you all pages in your site that have been indexed by Google.

I recommend doing this if you have a large site like mine that you change often. I quickly realized that I had some old pages that were indexed that I had forgotten about!

This tool will also help you see what search engine users will see when they find your page - it displays the title of the page and the description that is in the description meta tag. Knowing what users see can help you know what to modify and change. For instance, the search results returned by Google do not show the entire title tag or description so you might want to move certain keywords to the front of those page elements.

This is also a good tool to see what your competitors are up to. : )

Learning Spanish at CFCC

The wife and I are taking Spanish classes on Tues and Thurs nights for the next 2 months at Cape Fear Community College in downtown Wilmington.

This is the second of two Spanish classes offered with Spanish 1 being for beginners and Spanish 2 for the more advanced.

The class is open to everyone and is $60 plus you have to buy a couple of inexpensive books.

Hopefully as I learn Spanish I can begin to broaden my client base to include the Latino Community in Wilmington.

My wife and I are also involved with the Spanish ministry at our church, Northside Baptist which is near Laney High School on the north end of Wilmington.

Should I cross-link my websites for better SEO?

This is a question I come across often as I continually work on different sites for the same compay.

The situation is usually the same: one company has multiple websites that are related and therefore the idea is to link all the sites together to increase the back-links for each site.

Is this such a good idea or not? According to this video, no.
