Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

I would like to wish all of my clients and everyone else out there a Happy Thanksgiving!

Take some time to be with family and get some rest and fellowship.

Remember that we only go around this life once.

Please enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday and take time to reflect on how far you

have come on the journey, so far (and how good God has been to you

along the way.)

Watch for opportunities to make a difference to others (who may

not have friends or family.) Opportunities abound all around you if you watch for them.

PS. I got some of this from John Alexander over at www.searchengineworkshops.com and modified it.

Here are some ways to give back this holiday season:

1. Next time you go to the grocery store, pick up some extra food for the Salvation Army or in Wilmington we have The Good Shepard Ministry

2. Volunteer to work in a local soup kitchen that feeds the homeless.

3. Be sure to give thanks to God and others who have provided for you.

4. Make amends with someone you aren’t getting along with, whether be a friend, co-worker or family member. As mentioned above, we only have one shot at life, so it’s best to spend it getting along.

What is Google Gears?

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

I had a friend tell me about Google Gears the other day so I did some digging. I found a page about it on Google, but honestly, I’m still not 100% sure what it is still. From what I gather, it will allow you to run web applications offline? Here is a link to Google’s site – maybe if you can figure it out please leave a comment on this blog.

You must first install it on your browser/computer before you can run these demos.

Christmas in October

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Shopping in Walmart today (10/9/2008) I saw they already had Christmas decorations up. I haven’t been in Walmart awhile so there is no telling how early they actually put them up, but this is ridiculous. I remember telling my wife a couple years ago that they would start putting them out earlier and earlier and now it is happening. I mean, for crying out loud, Halloween hasn’t even happened yet. Sad, so sad. I don’t mind overriding Halloween that much, but not Thanksgiving. The time we are supposed to be thankful is being overshadowed by the time of the year where we get, get, get. Get a grip Walmart.

Backpage.com vs Craigslist.org

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I found this site today called Backpage.com – basically it looks and operates like Craigslist.org.

But, it did allow me to upload up to 4 images per listing and it had nice GUI interface buttons for bolding, underlining or italicizing my text; with Craigslist.org you have to know HTML to do that and type it in manually.
Also, it has a nice ‘Manage Ad’ button which allows you to easily edit and delete, yes I said DELETE your listing. Craigslist does not let you delete old postings for some reason which annoys the heck out of me.

Why do I need a website?

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

I found this great article today on the benefits of a website and how it can help with specific industries such as restaurants, professional services, retail and trade.

According to the article, a website can help you:

“maintain a corporate presence and make yourself accessible to your clients.  Unlike a bricks & mortar shop, a website can have it’s doors open 24/7.  Unlike a brochure or magazine advertisement, a website can be relied on for the most up-to-date information.”

A website can:

• create a corporate presence – if you are a large company clients would expect to be able to find out about you online

• sell products directly to the public

• generate and qualify leads

• gather feedback to help you improve your product or service

• compete with big business

• extend your trading hours

• expand your market

• save time by answering common questions online
